Ashe Students Awarded Scholarships
Seven Ashe County students were recently selected to receive college scholarships from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation.
Each year, Blue Ridge Electric provides scholarships totaling up to $17,500 across its service area of Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes counties to students seeking to further their academic goals. The scholarships awards range from $400 to $2,000 for students pursuing four-year degrees or students or adults seeking two-year degrees in vocational training.
The scholarship recipients are as follows:
• Sybol Eller, daughter of Linda Eller, $500 to attend Appalachian State University
• Brooke Price, daughter of Grady and Jennifer Price, $500 scholarship to attend Catawba College
• Kena Patrick, daughter of Kenneth and Teresa Patrick, $500 scholarship to attend Western Carolina University;
• Brittany Patrick, daughter of Johnny and Brenda Patrick, $500 to attend Wilkes Community College;
• Tyler Church, son of Billy and Trish Church, $500 to attend Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute;
• Ethan Lewis, son of Steven and Melissa Lewis, $500 to attend Western Carolina;
• Kathryn Bard, daughter of Michael and Susan Bard, $1,000 from Blue Ridge Electric to attend UNC-Charlotte, plus a $2,000 scholarship from the North Carolina Electric Cooperative Association.
Students were selected based on a number of factors including academic performance, community service and personal interviews.
This year marks the 57th year Blue Ridge Electric has awarded college scholarships. To date, 453 area students and citizens have received $414,000 to help them attend the college of their choice.
