Ashe Students Awarded Scholarships from Blue Ridge Energy
Blue Ridge Energy recently awarded $33,000 in college scholarships to 12 students across its service area seeking to further their academic goals. The scholarships are part of the Blue Ridge Energy Leadership Track program designed to help high school students better prepare for acceptance into the college of their dreams. In Ashe County, four students received a total of $8,000.
The recipients are:
Rachel Weaver, daughter of Rick and Allison Weaver, $2,000 to attend North Carolina State University;
Salem Brown, daughter of Jody and Wendy Brown, $1,000 to attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill;
Lauren Robinson, daughter of Scott Robinson and Jennifer Holden, $4,000 to attend North Carolina State University;
Anna Blackburn, daughter of David and Kathy Blackburn, $1,000 to attend Washington and Lee University.
Blue Ridge Energy Leadership Track students begin college preparations in their freshman or sophomore year and develop leadership, interview and public speaking skills while preparing for the college acceptance process. As seniors, Leadership Track students are invited to apply for renewable scholarships worth up to $4,000 each.
This year marks the 60th year Blue Ridge has awarded college scholarships. To date, 474 area students and citizens have received $511,000 to help them attend the college of their choice.
