Local Students Selected for Internships at Blue Ridge Energy
Blue Ridge Energy recently selected seven local students who will work in internship positions this summer for the electric cooperative that serves some 76,000 members across seven counties in northwest North Carolina.
The following will serve internships in Caldwell County at the cooperative’s corporate headquarters and Caldwell District office:
Blake Herman, a senior at UNC-Charlotte and 2018 summer intern, is returning to the cooperative’s engineering department located in the corporate headquarters. Blake, who is from Lenoir, will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.
Caitlin Finley, a student at Caldwell Early College in Lenoir, was selected as the community relations intern, located in the corporate office. Caitlin recently represented Blue Ridge Energy on the 2018 North Carolina Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. and also represented cooperatives around the state of North Carolina on the National Youth Leadership Council. Caitlin will also be helping with projects related to operations and right-of-way maintenance.
Jacob Church joined Caldwell district operations crews and is learning skills related to being a line technician. Jacob is a graduate of West Caldwell High School and is from Collettsville.
Casey Turro, a rising junior at Appalachian State University, was selected for the internship position serving Information Technology and Human Resources departments at the corporate office. She plans to major in computer information systems and accounting. Casey is from Wake Forest, N.C.
The following will serve internships in Watauga County:
Dalton Courtney joined the Watauga district operations team and will be learning skills related to being a line technician. Dalton is from Zionville and is a graduate of Watauga High School.
The following will serve internships in Ashe County:
John Reavis, joined the Ashe district operations team. He’s currently a student at Wilkes Community College where he’s studying diesel and heavy equipment technology. John is from Fleetwood.
The following will serve internships in Alleghany County:
Kody Blevins, joined the Alleghany operations team to learn skills related to becoming a line technician. Kody is from Sparta and is a graduate of Alleghany High School.
Blue Ridge Energy selects students from its district areas each year who display interest in work related to the cooperative and its operations. Interns spend the summer months working in various departments at the cooperative, learning its functions and developing professional skills that prepare them for their future career fields.
